Geraldine Hester was the owner of Daniel Jarvis Home Health Agency before turning it over to Kenya Myers and Georgette Kibbe-Herring in January 2002. Ms. Hester grew up in the Brazos area. She graduated from Prairie View A&M University and continued her education at University of Southern California, Pepperdine, and Stanford. Ms. Hester began the company in 1975 after returning home from California. She saw that there was a need for home health care in the Brazos Area and she set out to meet it. Daniel Jarvis Home Health Agency was named in recognition of Geraldine Hester’s grandfather Daniel Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis was a strong presence in the Brazos County for African Americans. He established the first school for African Americans on his land because at the time there was not one. He was a respected African American leader and provided a strong example for his granddaughter. Geraldine Hester was not only a business owner; she was an educator and political force.

Kenya Myers is Co- Owner, Executive Director and CEO of Daniel Jarvis Home Health Agency and Daniel Jarvis Private Duty. As she blossomed into womanhood Kenya worked in various jobs throughout the agency such as File Clerk, Data Entry I&II, Home Health Aide and Operations Manager. This is where she honed her leadership skills. Her mom made her start at the bottom of the totem pole, so she would understand the intricacies of the business. She explained that understanding the nature of an individual’s job would help her be a better leader. Kenya recalls Mrs. Hester always telling her when times get hard, “I don’t know of anyone drowning in their own sweat.” After taking the reigns of Daniel Jarvis, Kenya came to understand exactly what she meant by those words.
